Samsung Galaxy Watches Get Big Upgrade — New Features for Older Models
If you're still sporting a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 or a slightly newer Galaxy Watch 5, you're in for a treat. Samsung, the South Korean tech giant, has just rolled out a One UI 6 Watch beta upgrade, ensuring these models continue to stay relevant with new features and improvements.
As reported by T3, this beta release is available to Samsung members and gives users a sneak peek at upcoming capabilities set to debut with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra. Both of these models are expected to be unveiled at next week's Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris on July 10.
For those with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, the beta is already accessible, bringing several notable enhancements. Among these are improved health tracking, including more detailed sleep insights, and the introduction of a pinch gesture that allows users to select items on the screen seamlessly. The update also enhances horizontal scrolling speed, an added convenience for users.

Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the new capability to combine a series of exercises into a custom workout routine, making tracking your physical activity more comprehensive and tailored.
However, there's a catch: as noted by 9to5Google, the beta is limited to Bluetooth models only, excluding the LTE variants of the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 4. No specific reason has been provided for this omission, leaving LTE users in a bit of a quandary.
For those eager to dive into the beta experience, here's a quick guide:
- Open the Samsung Members app.
- Locate the card for the latest build available for your watch.
- Tap on the card.
- Join the beta program for your specific watch model.
- Load the update via the Galaxy Wearable app.
While the full One UI 6 Watch operating system will come pre-installed on the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra, those preferring a bug-free experience might consider waiting for the official release of these newer models.

The excitement doesn't end there. During Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event, we also expect to see next-gen foldable devices, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the Z Flip 6. Additionally, Samsung will present its take on a wearable ring, the Galaxy Ring, and the redesigned Galaxy Buds 3, Samsung’s competitor to the Apple AirPods.
