Copilot’s new Desktop Share feature empowers users to grant AI full desktop visibility, enhancing live support and productivity across any Windows app.

CoPilot: Desktop Share

Microsoft has just unveiled a game-changing addition for its Copilot AI platform on Windows, rolling out a brand-new Desktop Share feature now available to Windows Insiders through the Microsoft Store. This latest update supercharges real-time AI help by allowing users to share their entire desktop environment—not just individual applications or browser windows—directly with Copilot for instant support and contextual insights.

The newly enhanced Copilot on Windows acts as a smart digital assistant, able to “see” everything on your screen when granted permission. Whether you’re editing photos, navigating a new application, or troubleshooting technical snags, Copilot can analyze the displayed content, provide step-by-step guidance, and deliver intelligent answers as you work. Microsoft explains, “When you enable Desktop Share, Copilot Vision can see what you see, respond in real time, and offer contextual help, from deciphering complicated interfaces to suggesting where to click next.”

To get started with Desktop Share, simply tap the glasses icon inside Copilot’s composer, select either your entire desktop or a specific app window, and prompt Copilot with your question. Privacy remains front and center; users can stop sharing at any time with a single click on ‘Stop’ or the ‘X’ button.

This powerful upgrade builds on the Copilot Vision technology, which debuted in June 2025. While Copilot Vision initially allowed users to share individual app windows or browsers for targeted AI help, Desktop Share expands those boundaries, enabling AI-powered support that spans your entire workflow. Unlike the previously controversial Recall feature, which sparked privacy concerns, Desktop Share is strictly opt-in—Copilot requires your explicit consent before viewing your desktop and never passively collects data without your knowledge.

Currently, the Desktop Share capability is a free update for eligible users in the United States running Windows 10 or Windows 11, and it continues as part of Microsoft’s experimental Copilot Labs initiative. As AI assistants become increasingly prevalent across operating systems, Microsoft is clearly positioning Copilot as a trustworthy, interactive partner for every kind of digital task—pushing the boundaries of what real-time AI on Windows can deliver.
